What We Do
Better Bound Bookstore and Youth Development is a social enterprise job training and youth development program that empowers at-risk youth to “Do the work” to actively change the trajectory of their lives while managing an online resale business.
We work with the most vulnerable 16 – 21 year old young adults: those who are court involved, failing school or out of school. Youth develop career goals, stay in school, achieve academically and learn critical employment and social skills that will enable them to succeed in life, all while earning a paid wage managing our resale store.
Our Mission
Mission: Better Bound pursues a dual mission to:
01. Increase economic and academic opportunities for underserved youth
02. Develop self-efficacy and personal life skills; empowering them to lead successful lives.
Our Program
Our program gives underserved youth 2 jobs.
01.
A Business job, working in the on-line resale business, receiving, inspecting, categorizing, pricing and posting donated items to the Better Bound Store Front website for resale to support the organization. They also package for shipment when items are sold.
(Working in a supportive atmosphere youth learn problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, decision making, leadership, entrepreneurship, ability to accept constructive feedback)
02.
A “BOM” ( Best of Me) job provides an opportunity to gain valuable life skills and experiences to prepare for adulthood. The “BOM” job is just as important as the company job and requires goals to be met in order to continue in the program.
(Passing grades in school, Continuing education goals, Get an ID, Bank Account, Credit Counseling, Transportation & Community resources training, Cost of Living training, Team building, Anger management courses, and Community Service Participation)
Both jobs are paid hours working on the designated job and youth must progress in each job in order to remain in the program.
